My beloved gadget, which is absolutely indispensable to me since! Currently I am the proud owner of the Tungsten T3 – my third palmtop already. Read here some reviews about this one and my former models. Moreover I compiled a few links to selected resources about personal digital assistants (PDAs) .

Since November 2003 I have the Palm Tungsten T3, which was released only one month before. Before I had for quite a long time the Palm m505.

The main reasons for the upgrade were:
– Better TFT color display with a much higher resolution
(320x480 pixel, 65,536 colours) and the practical landscape mode
– Faster processor and more internal memory
(400MHz Intel Xscale and 64 MB memory, thereof 51.6 MB available)
– Bluetooth interface
– Multimedia features (e.g. MP3 and video player)
– Better software (e.g. Documents To Go for enhanced editing of
WinWord and Excel files as well as Powerpoint slides)

The only thing really missing is a Wi-Fi interface for wireless surfing. Of course you can buy an SD-Card with this function to do so, but they are for Palm OS 5 by now not really available.

palm_m505From May 2001 to November 2003 I had my second palmtop the Palm m505, which I was fascinated about on my CeBIT visit before.

The fact that now I can use SD cards to expand the 8 MB internal memory and use easier additional devices looked as this palm would be a secure investment in the future. But much more the display with over 65,000 colours tempted me, though the backlight could not be much adjusted, which made the screen quality a bit poor (Palm launched the m515 one year later with a much better screen).

Nevertheless the palm allowed me to carry pictures around with me and even in the end people were astonished by watching them on my palmtop.

palm_vxMy very first palm with that my whole PDA euphoria should begin was the Palm Vx, which was at this time (spring 2000) one of the state-of-the-art PDA's and opened with its 8 MB memory endless potential (its predecessor, the Palm V, had only 2 MB RAM).

I was looking quite a while before to a slim and light personal information management (PIM) system and always was not sure, whether to go for Psion or Palm. But Palm convinced me in the end fortunately because the first so difficult way of typing or better scribbling the data turned out to be very intuitive. Furthermore the device only weighed 114 g and its slim look made it incredibly sexy. The expansion possibilities seemed to be limitless because so much software was available, mostly shareware.

It was and still is so convenient to sync the calender, contact and task entries from your desktop to the PDA in order to be always up to date and to react to new things immediately. Also very fancy was the connection over the infrared interface to my mobile for downloading mails – now I do so via bluetooth. The Li-Ion battery lasted for more than one week, which was absolutely satisfying to me and more than Windows CE users can ever dream of.
